Government of Canada Progress Report 2011 on Foreign Credential Recognition

May 7, 2012

This fourth annual report highlights progress made by Citizenship and Immigrantion Canada (CIC), Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, Service Canada, and Health Canada to reduce the barriers to foreign credential recognition for internationally trained individuals. CIC and partner departments work in collaboration with the provinces, territories and key stakeholders to develop tools, processes and initiatives aimed at helping integrate newcomers into the labour market at a level commensurate with their education, skills and experience.

Some achievements in the report include:

  • expansion of the Canadian Immigrant Integration Program (CIIP), which is designed and managed by the Association of Canadian Community Colleges.  CIIP currently offers pre-arrival orientation sessions in up to 25 countries, based on demand.
  • an innovative assessment and bridging program to help internationally educated nurses meet regulatory requirements for licensure across Canada.
  • launch of the International Qualifications Network website for stakeholders to share information and best practices in credential assessment.
